It has been studied how the violence develops. Domestic abuse rarely starts with the partner punching the victim, but the violence develops little by little. This often starts with the spouse putting pressure on the victim to stop interacting with the closest people, such as work, relatives, or colleagues, and with that the victim begins to have people around him that he trusts. Next, the spouse begins to humiliate the victim, affecting his appearance, behaviour, language, and opinions, as a result, the mental violence worsens and increases. The perpetrator starts threatening, destroying the house by breaking and littering. Physical abuse is the final stage but is often bundled with mental abuse. After physical violence, there is often a time when there is peace in the home, in some cases the perpetrator is a big giver, the perpetrator gives gifts, is caring and there is love in the home. The victim makes a great effort to maintain a relationship like this, but little by little the tension builds up again in the home and the violence is used anew.
